GET INVOLVED!

Hello all Sparklers!
With school already starting for some and about to start for others, I have one piece of advice to all those heading back: Get Involved!

Get Involved in something, anything. It can be a sport, a club, an activity. It doesn’t have to be at school. It can be something in the community, something in your church, really anywhere.

Jump in, try stuff.  Choir may not be the thing for you, maybe Art Club is. Or cooking class, bad mitten, Junior Government, or a book club. The possibilities are endless. Just because one thing doesn’t work out, doesn’t mean there isn’t something else out there that has your name written all over it.

If there isn’t a club for an activity you’re interested in, be brave- start one!
There are three big benefits you will reap when you jump in and get involved:

1.      FRIENDSHIP & COMMUNITY
Being part of a team, committee, or club provides instant friends. Connecting with people is where the zip in life exists.  Joining in on an activity or hobby unites you with others that have the same interests as you. It will be your #1 place to make friends. And, oh, what friends those will be!  They will be the ones you keep in your life.

 2.      YOU GET TO MAKE THE DECISIONS
I once asked an accomplished young man who was active in the community why he chose to do so much.  His response, “I learned that the ones that get involved are the ones that get to make the decisions.”
It’s true! Even as adults, the ones that get involved get to decide how things will go.  At my work place, we have a committee that plans the annual employee holiday party. It’s amazing how many people complain about the food, the type of music, the gifts given out.  My answer to them, “Join us! Get involved in the planning and then YOU will have a say in the type of food we serve, the music we play, and the gifts we give out.”
You see, it’s a lot easier to sit on the side lines and complain.  Another thing to jump in and be a part of the planning.
You don’t like how the homeless are treated in your community- join or create a group that works on these issues.  Now you get to be a part of the solution!

 3.      IT BECOMES A LIFE CHANGER- FOR YOU!
There are many lives that change when you become involved. The biggest one will be yours!
Becoming involved makes you better in social situations, makes you a great team player and raises your self-confidence.
When you are doing something you enjoy, be it a hobby, being part of a team, or making a change in your community, you are tapping into what I like to call, “the flow of life.” This is when life feels easy and effortless.  Why?  Because you are doing something you enjoy! You’re connecting with what makes you tick uniquely as a human being. And really, that’s our biggest job on this earth, to discover what makes each of us tick as a human being. And when we connect with others who have the same interests and goals- well, that’s pure awesomeness there.

So, Sparklers of all ages- get in there, jump in with both feet!
Make this the year to connect and go for it!
