Finishing College Can Be Hard!!

Finishing college can be hard. And giving up can be easy.
Now here’s a list of pro and cons about college.

Pros
Cons
You can study whatever you like, seriously though. Someone is even majoring in One Direction. Look it up.

You have to go to school for another four years (but hey, you survived the other 12, so you can totally do more).
You can make your own schedule. That’s right, no more 8 am classes. Unless that’s what you’re into, then go for it.

Sometimes you may have to go to class on Saturdays. (Those do exist). But at least you won’t have to do that many chores on the weekend.
You can go to school in another state, country even. As far away as you’d like. Or as far away from that crush you had that you totally embarrassed yourself in front of. Yeah.

You’ll miss your friends and family. So much, that you’ll only enjoy the holidays you get to spend with them on a whole different level that you didn’t know existed.
You’ll meet so many new people and they’ll all be different and somehow, you’ll enjoy knowing you’re not the only one suffering through all the midterms and finals. (Which you do need to study for, this isn’t high school anymore, but hey, study dates can be fun too).

You’ll need to study. Hard. And read the heaviest text books in all the land. (Thank heavens for Kindles). But you’ll also have the strongest arms you’ve ever had. Yay, summer bod. Cries internally while flexing.
You’ll enjoy most of your classes. (Most, as in you still have to take prerequisites that are pretty boring). But it’ll only prepare you furthermore for what’s to come.

Those classes are expensive. Like let’s take out a house expensive, except this isn’t somewhere you can live. But guess what. There are plenty of scholarships, grants, and soul crushing debt around, and I will gladly take them all if you won’t. I’m trying to finish school.
If you go out of state, you’ll probably have to dorm or find roommates. Unless you have an inconsiderable amount of money and CAN buy a house. In that case, can I live with you? If not, then you’ll still have the wonderful/nerve wracking experience of having a roomie and that’s always a good story to tell about after you graduate.

You may get a horrible roommate. So label everything. Count everything. And try changing the lock. Just kidding, don’t do that. Unless they put pineapples on their pizza. Then definitely do it.
The amount of clubs and activities that you can join are ridiculous. Seriously who has all the time to come up with these? Anyway, you have so much to choose from and they look amazing on your college apps. So join that comic book club. Do it.

You might not find a club/activity you like. But like I said, people somehow find the time to come up them. You should too. I’m starting a don’t-drop-out-of-school intervention club. Ha.
This is probably going to be the first responsible and super impactful thing that you are going to do for yourself. No pressure though. And you have the power to do it at your own pace and will. That sounds pretty empowering to me.
You might fail. You might forget to turn in a paper on time. You might sleep in and miss a class. You might not like a professor. (Check out ratemyprofessors.com, you’ll know who to not take). But it’s okay. Because you have so many opportunities to fix your mistakes. That’s a part of growing up.
You’ll get your dream job when you’re done. Or maybe not. But guess what. That piece of paper you fought so hard to get, will get you further than you think. You’ll get paid more, you’ll have an excuse to buy that awesome frame you saw at Michael’s for your diploma, and you’ll be able to say that you survived those college years, both filled with suffering and enjoyment from the fun and crazy things you did.

You’ll miss it. You’ll miss getting to learn from your mistakes and actually become an adult. Which isn’t that bad. Until you have to make your own doctor appointments instead of your mom. Then it sucks. But good news. You can always go back again and get more cool papers to hang in unnecessary chromed out Michael’s frames. I am.
