Share Your Sparkle Day is around the
corner so today we challenge you to start thinking about what this
event is all about. Here is my take on SYSD and hopefully you can
take it and start brainstorming some ideas for what you are going to
do on May 13th.
We started Share Your Sparkle Day last
year as a way to get schools more involved in spreading the SSS
message and to reach kids who haven’t been able to participate in
our workshops. This event is based off of one of our 5 Keys to
Self-Worth – Making Your Mark. In the station that we have in our
workshops, we talk about using our special talents to make an impact
on others and then we put that into practice by helping out a partner
organization, Project Valentine. Share Your Sparkle Day is
essentially an extended practical version of that station. This is
the chance for everyone to take a step back from being so focused on
themselves and what they have going on and considering things that
are much bigger. It's a time to think about others and figuring out
what you can do to help them or to make an impact in their lives.
It’s a moment to remember what you care about and how you are
helping that cause.
So this week, start thinking about what
and who you care about. Start thinking about ways that you can make a
difference.Remember that this is not about
changing the world or even changing someone’s life. Even tiny
things can make a huge impact.
Maybe a friend or family member is
going through a tough time and need support.
Maybe your teacher has been working
really hard and needs to hear some words of gratitude.
Maybe your peers are really stressing
and need strength.
How can you help?
I know we talk about using our “special
talents” in our workshops, but really this doesn’t even have to
be about a talent that you have.
You have ears. Use them to listen to
someone that needs to be heard.
You have a voice. Use it to speak for
the voiceless.
You have a heart. Use it to spread love
and kindness.
Let’s work together to leave a big
trail of glitter!
