When Everyone Works Together for the Common Good, A Real Difference Can Be Made!

A community is always best when everyone works together. I believe this same idea applies to the non-profit organization community as well. Non-profits vary in their mission and purpose, but they are all centered on improving the condition of life. We have only grown, to where we are now, because of the help of some other non-profits. I want to take some time to tell you about these organizations that have helped us, and give you some information about them in case you want to get involved as well.

The first one I want to mention is Project Valentine. They are based out of the Denver metro area, and put together care packages for those having cancer treatment on or around Valentine's Day. These care packages can have things like homemade hats or other small items purchase at the store. One thing that we do at SSS, to give back to Project Valentine, is make Valentine's Day cards at our Making Your Mark station. All the care packages given to patients, include homemade Valentine's Day cards, so we know all of the cards the girls make, will be put to good use. The current president of Project Valentine, Rita, is a friend of mine and has offered (and still does) great encouragement and advice as I started the SSS Project. I personally know some of the people who have received a care package made with love and it really does make their Valentine's Day a little sweeter. If you want more information on how to get involved with Project Valentine, I have provided the link to their website and Facebook page below.

Cans for Hope is another organization that has helped the Shimmer Sparkle Shine Project grow to where it is now. Cans for Hope collects aluminum cans, recycles them, and uses the money to help rehabilitate and support victims of sexual violence. I was first introduced to this program, and its director Barb, in high school. My high school created a service focus on Cans for Hope and successfully established a can recycling system in the school and within the families of students. Through donations I was able to get to know Barb, who showed great interest in what SSS was trying to accomplish. She is a great example to me, and someone I look up to. She has given me great advice on establishing the Shimmer Sparkle Shine Project and even sponsored a can drives as a fundraiser for SSS. If you would like more information on Cans for Hope and would like to donate your aluminum cans or scrap metal, please follow the links below.

I hope that I personally, and the Shimmer Sparkle Shine Project as a whole, can continue to help other non-profits continue improving the condition of life for everyone. Please remember the principle, that when everyone works together for the common good, a real difference can be made!

With Love,
Ciara
